Michael (Mikey) joined MenAlive during the Spring of 2015 and has since grown as a performer as well as a strong contributing member to the LGBTQ community. Michael originally found his passion for serving his community as an undergrad at California State University, Long Beach. During his time there, he was elected as president for one of the largest Cambodian student organizations in the United States. This led him to become Executive Assistant, and later a board member, to the Cambodian Coordinating Council of Long Beach.
His passion for serving his community has steered him to find more leadership opportunities within the chorus. MenAlive has been a strong and positive influence to the Orange County LGBTQ community and Michael is excited to join the chorus’ mission of spreading music, unity, and love. “As Social Co-Manager, I hope that I can bring lots of excitement, fun and enthusiasm within the chorus and it’s members! Let’s ‘stir the pot’ a bit and get the chorus’ blood running!”
Currently, Michael is also working as a hospice social worker/grief councilor providing services to terminally ill patients in Orange County and Los Angeles County. He has previously worked as a behavior specialist and team facilitator to youth and families who were under the jurisdiction of the Department of Children and Family Services, Probation, and the Department of Mental Health.
